Vere CEO: If the solution seems to suit everyone, it actually fits nobody



Vere Oy is Finland’s leading business designer whose mission is to create growth for its customers.

When Juha Leppänen founded Vere in late 2015, he was frustrated with the generally low customer satisfaction of ICT companies. Juha's team has a knack for tackling the challenges, and they believe in business design with an emphasis on customer loyalty.

1. Why did you become an entrepreneur?

I have previously worked in business management as well as sales and marketing management in large international organisations, worked as an executive member of a listed corporation and in start-ups. What made me become an entrepreneur was that fact that I got frustrated with the generally low customer satisfaction of ICT companies and the way the development challenges of businesses in the “digital age” were solved too heavily in terms of technology and expensive projects that often fail.


2. What are you like as an entrepreneur?

As an entrepreneur, I firmly believe in a “people first” way of leadership – in other words, the clients and personnel are the ones who create the results of the company. As a person, I believe I am both supportive but also demanding in a positive way.


3. What makes the story of your personal career interesting?

The fact that I have seen the entire spectrum of business. From start-ups to global giants, American, British, Swedish and Finnish business culture, and have been part of 10’s of acquisitions and fusions. These have provided me with the understanding of what a winning corporate culture looks like and what it doesn’t look like.


4. What is your biggest professional accomplishment?

My biggest professional accomplishment is on its way as we speak!

Regarding sales my biggest accomplishment so far is growing a software company into becoming the second largest in the market. Regarding technology my largest accomplishment so far is being the first in the world to launch mobile paying and online paying services.


5. What was your biggest professional blunder?

Assuming that it is possible to sell customers a generic solution that suits everyone! Not understanding the vital importance of proper commercialisation caused me to miss many cases back in the day. I quickly learned that if the solution seems to suit everyone it actually suits no one.


6. What is your dream for your company?

To create a strong, growing and successful company, which can be taken seriously but is not serious by nature. For me, it is important that everyone working there can also pursue their personal dreams in the company.


7. Who is your role model and why?

As cliché as it sounds, I have to say, my mother. She is an example of a person who never gives up and aims to think positively in all situations. In addition, I value people who seek solutions and constantly aim to do their best – whatever the case is.


8. What motivates you?

I am motivated by results, which are achieved by serving customers based on their own conditions. In addition, I am of course motivated by the success of individuals around me.


9. Why crowdfunding and why with Invesdor?

We wanted to use crowdfunding to gain a larger base of investors instead of one large investor. In a way we wanted to keep a certain level of freedom in our business. On the other hand, with a large number of different stakeholders involved comes a larger sense of responsibility, which we see as a good thing. We chose Invesdor due to the fact that people in our network have had good experiences working with them.
